Why I built this
Hello — I'm Jiveen.
I live near Buchlyvie, and I built Kist Directory because I kept noticing the same thing: some of the best food round here is made by people almost nobody can find. A butcher with no website. A croft that only exists on Facebook. A van in a different village each week — if you happen to know which one.
Meanwhile, the same handful of chains show up first in every search, every time, because that's what the internet rewards.
That didn't sit right with me. Behind every name on this list is somebody up at four to get the bread on, or out in the field before it's light. They've no time to fight the internet for attention — and they shouldn't have to.
So I built a kist. A kist is where you keep what's worth keeping — and that's what this is: the food made across Forth Valley and Stirlingshire, all in one place, kept right.
A few things worth knowing, because I think they matter:
It's just me. One person, working from home in Buchlyvie. I'm not building the next tech giant — I'm building something this corner of Scotland can rely on, and I intend to keep it that way.
There's no catch. Every business is listed free, forever, and the list runs A to Z — nobody can pay to move up it. That's built into how the thing works, not written in a marketing plan. Somewhere down the line, a business might choose to pay for extra tools; being on the list, and being found, will never cost anyone a penny.
Your email is yours. Follow a business and it's used for exactly that, nothing else — and businesses never see it. One tap to stop, any time.
If something's wrong, tell me. If a business is missing, tell me that too. Locals who know their village, businesses who know their trade, and me making sure it all adds up — that's the whole model.
And if you find this useful, the most powerful thing you can do costs nothing: mention it. Tell a neighbour about the fish van. Tell the baker she's on here. Round here, one person telling another is how anything good travels — and it's how this grows.
Run one of these places yourself? You're likely already on here, put together from what's already public — and it's yours to take over any time, free.
Thank you for being here.
